BIOGRAPHY

Sophie Wheeless is a multiform artist based in Chicago, Illinois. Her work includes Theatrical Directing, Stage Management, Playwrighting, Devising, and Illustration.

She received her B.A. in Theatre (Directing Concentration) from Columbia College Chicago in May of 2024. During her collegiate years, she focused her studies on the intersection between human expression and social psychology- exploring the ways in which Theatre and other art forms can offer an outlet for transgressive subjects. In the Theatre Department, she contributed to multiple productions, and had an original play produced by the College. Her directing thesis, a production of The Nether by Jennifer Haley, was awarded a merit based scholarship. Along with her directorial work, she engaged with a wide variety of gender and sexuality courses, and participated in visual and performance art workshops.

After graduating, Sophie has put her creative efforts toward devising and new play development. She has collaborated with theaters around the city- with some recent directorial credits at Chicago Dramatists, The Second City, and Rhinofest.

Currently, she has an internship with Stillpoint Theatre Collective- a company that produces the new works of locally incarcerated playwrights. She also creates for Tease and Resist, a satire magazine.
